The Aikido program is run by Jeffrey M. Mims, Nidan, and supervised by Brian Sutherland, Godan. Students are recognized by
Aikido America International, the
Japan Aikido Association
and the United States Judo Association for Judo.
Sensei Jeff has been practicing and teaching martial arts since 1984. He is recognized by the Japan Aikido Association as a second degree black belt in Aikido. He also holds a black belt in Karate, a brown belt (Ikkyu) in Judo, and a blue belt in Jiu-Jitsu under Professor Pedro Sauer.
Jeff has trained in a variety of arts throughout the country under many teachers, and has taught seminars in Aikido and Self-Defense throughout the east coast. He often works with groups to enhance their knowledge and skills in self-protection, including law enforcement, corrections, the military, and colleges.
Jeff is also a fitness coach and trainer. He runs the web site FitDaily.com and provides professional fitness instruction and coaching to clients around the world. He is the author of several books including The Essential Guide to Choosing a Martial Arts School, a valuable primer for anyone thinking of taking martial arts classes of any kind.
Sensei Brian Sutherland is recogonized by the Japan Aikido Association as a fifth degree black belt. He also holds a third degree black belt in Judo as well as a black belt in Karate. Sensei Brian has been practicing and teaching Aikido since 1974.
Brian is a nationally certified Police Self-Defense instructor with the United States Karate Association as well as a Psycho-Motor Skill Design Instructor with the Justice System Training Association. He has taught self-defense at many organizations throughout the United States including the US Customs Service, the US Justice Department, Saint Elizabeth’s Mental Hospital, Atlanta's Federal Prison System, the National Institute of Corrections, Georgetown University, UMBC, as well as many Baltimore City and County public schools and several local YMCAs.
